Inro to a square in fundame lacquer with a takamaki-e decoration of red lacquer of a lobster deploying its antennas. One-compartment black lacquer interior. Signed Reisai. Height 4.5 cm. Provenance: - Sale Collection Arthur Kay, 20-26 November 1913, n°619. - Label Collection Kay n°0329 Reisai is the eldest son of Shibata Zeshin. He learned lacquerware and then worked under the patronage of his father before making his own name. He produces high quality inro, often small in size and inspired by the Rinpa aesthetic.
