A cubist landscape by Roger de La Fresnaye
Publish by Drouot
A student of the Nabis painters Maurice Denis and Paul Sérusier at the Académie Ranson, Roger de La Fresnaye moved to Châteauneuf-du-Faou (Finistère) in 1908/1909 and painted a number of landscapes of Brittany, following the principles of synthesism. Two years later, he joined the Cubists at the Salon d'Automne in 1911. In the years that followed, the painter regularly visited his brother Henri, director of the Nieuport aircraft manufacturing company in the small town of Meulan on the banks of the Seine in the Yvelines. Like Cézanne, Roger de La Fresnaye painted many still lifes and around fifteen landscapes.
This painting is very similar to another in this series, painted in 1912 and entitled "Factory Chimney".
This fine work will be auctioned by Tessier & Sarrou et Associés on Friday 21 June at Hôtel Drouot
