French art world back in gear

Publish by Antiques Trade Gazette

Capital comes to life after summer break with fairs, auctions and numerous gallery shows.
Paris in early September is a period when art world activity traditionally moves into a much higher gear after the equally traditional summer break.
This is the time when La Biennale Paris, the city’s long-running antiques fair takes place at the Grand Palais.
Other regular art market events have also become well established.
The Parcours du Monde tribal art event and the Parcours de la Ceramique (September 10-17 - see ceramics feature this week), based in the streets around the Saint Germain district on the left bank are two such long-running September fixtures. There are also many individual dealers’ shows launched at this point.
And, of course, the Paris auction scene starts up again at the Drouot centre and the independent rooms.
It all combines to act as a magnet to draw visitors to the City of Light.
Following on from ATG’s preview of the Parcours des Mondes (held September 10- 15) and La Biennale (September 13-17) in ATG No 2400, we feature some of the other exhibitions and auctions taking place over the next few weeks.
