[circa 1936-1948]. Abundant correspondence on his literary activity (a large number of letters written between 1940 and 1943 on the back of cards stamped with the effigy of Marshal Pétain). Excerpts: "Would you like to find me on Monday, January 20, at 4:00 a.m., at the Café d'Angleterre (on the Grand Boulevards). I will hold in my hands Tzara's book (La Main passe - blue cover) [published in 1935] [...]". From Buenos Aires. "a montevidean has a photo of Lautréamont at the age of 15 & gossip from his great grandmother. Which magazine would want it? America? A continent of pierced baskets [...]". "Here are the corrected proofs. Journey to the Land of Magic [1941], copies of which cannot leave England. Prohibition Gallimard I suppose. Besides, the edition is out of print and exactly copied from the French one [...]". "If your magazine still exists, I would gladly give you the Notes to serve as a report of a trip to Poddema on condition that you send me the proofs in time... and the text - because it is not easy to decipher [...]". "It takes a lot of water, and being in it to forget some things. And again... No book received. Mine will be published by Gallimard in October. My real company: some ghosts that I paint. But they are not talkative. What do you plan to do? Can you really have books sent to you? If so, I'll send you the money. The booksellers here are deaf when you talk about Klee, Dali, Edit. des Cahiers d'Art. I am also making - prisoner's imagination - a third imaginary journey, not too shabby this one. What has become of Ernst? [...]", etc.
