"Résurrection de l'oiseau" 1958 Colour lithograph signed with consignment "For Frank Elgar with all my sympathy" lower right Numbered 26/75 lower left 55 x 42 cm This is the lithograph that was on the cover of the book, Résurrection de l'oiseau, written by Frank Elgar and illustrated by Georges Braque, Editions Maeght, 1958. Bibliography: Georges Braque, Catalogue raisonné de l'oeuvre gravé par Dora Vallier, Éditions Flammarion, 1982, reproduced as N°137 In this work, Braque seeks to simplify the shape of the birds as much as possible. They become signs placed in harmony with the planets and which spin like arrows. They symbolize the freedom of the artist. In Braque's work, the bird is also a variation of the painter's palette. In the course of her paintings, she transforms herself into a bird, leaves the painter's studio and flies off to the stars.
