At 47, Loup MÉRY lives in Paris, but has been particularly fond of Basse Normandie for the past twenty years.

He studied art at the Lycée MAXIMILIEN VOX (Paris 6e), and observing the photographers he saw working with his parents inspired him to buy his first camera.

They lent him an Olympus, then he bought himself a Nikon FM2 - which he kept for the rest of his life - with money from his summer jobs.

He began to capture the authenticity of his surroundings on film, which he appreciated for its exacting standards, wherever his travels took him around the world.

For a time, he worked on a number of commissions, including one from the director of the MEP, who asked him to showcase the work of French and foreign artists during the Mois de la Photo Biennial, before returning to full "editorial freedom" during his years in audio-visual production, now shooting exclusively with his iPhone.

Playing with the medium's discretion, he instinctively captures an often unsuspected grace, as he goes about his daily life, sometimes in the most trivial situations.

The viewer of his photos is invited to take the time to tame the beauty of the world, in the protean chaos of the city and its modernity, the comforting purity of nature, the family, its shared meals, its dispensed tenderness.
