Albert DUBOUT (1905-1976)

During his lifetime, Albert Dubout (Marseille 1905 - Mézy- sur-Seine, 1976) illustrated over 80 books, the last of which appeared after his death. He published 27 albums and designed 80 cinema and advertising posters. He also produced 70 oil paintings, including the famous Corridas with their light and shade, and the Toreros. Alongside Magritte and Steinberg, he is certainly one of the most influential artists of a whole generation of illustrators and cartoonists. Passionate about staging and photographic "self-gags", he seems to vacillate between the set photos of Chaplin's film scenes and the enchantments of Jérôme Bosch. Dubout, a true workaholic, is, along with Daumier, one of the finest jewels in the crown of French satire.
