WEDDING NAPPE Embroidery and lace, fleur de lys and gold thr - Lot 235
WEDDING NAPPE Embroidery and lace, fleur de lys and gold thread 1945 -1950
Twenty-four napkins
The theme of the Wedding is symbolized by cartridges with doves parading, pecking and contemplating their eggs in the nest.
The path is embroidered with two large motifs positioned in mirror with their center checkerboard of days. It is bordered by a sinuous lace entre-deux with medallions with doves, flowered cones, scrolls and flowers.
The field and the falls are embroidered with fleur-de-lys in applications and gold thread and days in stairs. Semis of small patterns with dots and rhombuses in pulled threads.
An entre-deux with lace cartridges connects the path at each corner.
The undulating border with floral cartridges is in the same lace.
The embroideries are in applications of the same fabric mounted in the point-de-Paris, set with a gold thread in the point before.
The laces are of type Venice with the needle for the medallions, Old-Flanders with the spindles and needle for the entre-deux and the borders.
The hems are mounted to days.
The napkins are decorated with medallions with the same theme of doves, lace type Venice. Linen.
= 200 x 435 cm
Nice condition. A few light yellowed spots.
Remark: The quality, the decoration of applications mounted in gold thread, the use of beautiful handmade lace, make us think of a production of the prestigious House D. PORTHAULT in Paris, creator of luxurious household linen for an international clientele
