RIVART Julien-Nicolas (1802-1867)
Curved working table with violet and rosewood veneer on all sides. It opens with a flap inlaid with a polychrome porcelain bouquet and inlaid with an armorial cartouche. The interior reveals a mirror and a drawer. It rests on curved feet. Ornamentation of gilded bronzes foliated such as: baguettes of framing, entry of lock, falls and sabots. Signed "Rivart Bté/ Rue de Normandie/n.1 à Paris". H. 73 cm = L. 54 cm = D. 40 cm. Julien Nicolas Rivart. Inventor of a process of inlay of porcelain on wood which he made patent in 1849. He obtained medals at the Universal Exhibitions of London (1851), Paris (1855) and 1862 (London). The Empress Eugenie bought from him a jewel box decorated with this process (museum of the palace of Compiègne). This technique of marquetry will disappear after his death in 1867 (*)
