Pierre-Philippe THOMIRE (1751-1843) - Lot 105
Pierre-Philippe THOMIRE (1751-1843)
Important clock of the first quarter of the XIXth century in gilt bronze and sea green marble, representing Oedipus at the end of his life, arms stretched towards Antigone, his daughter, a knee on the ground in front of him. This scene takes place in front of a pillar symbolizing the tomb of Laïus, in which is inscribed the enamelled dial, Roman numerals bearing the signature of the clockmaker Leroy. The marble base rests on four winged claw feet, inscribed within a frieze in low relief depicting the scene of the death of Laius murdered by his son. H. 66 cm = W. 51 cm = D. 25 cm (accident to the marble, small repair to the minute hand and complete movement). Clock of the same model bequeathed by the Countess of Fleury in 1925 to the Louvre Museum. Bibliography: Thomire by Juliette Niclausse, Gründ bookshop, pages 106 and 128 and plate n°30. EXPERT: Denis CORPECHOT = 06 07 22 92 65
