Horseguards, 12 décembre 1797; 2 pages in-folio. «I beg to return you herewith lieut. governor Stuart's and Mrs Bailey's letters, and to acquaint you that her majesty has been pleased to appoint Captain Archer from the 16 th Dragoons (an officer who is severely wounded on the continent) to the vacant company of Invalides at Port George. And even that not been the case, I could not consistent with the rules which have been laid down, and which have invariably been adhered to since his majesty did me the honor to place me in my present situation. [I] have recommanded lieut. governor stuart to succeed to it, he n't having taken a pecuniary consideration on retiring from the service. Major Bailey's application to be appointed to a company of Invalides wille be taken into consideration. I shall have the pleasure whenever it is in my power to recommand lieutenant Thompson.»
