FRENCH REVOLUTION / THE TERROR / NATIONAL CONVENTION / Claude JAVOGUES / LYON UPRISING / LOIRE / FEURS / MONTBRISON / BOËN. The Representatives of the People, Delegates for the organization of the Department of the Loire and the restoration of public order [Claude JAVOGUES]. Drawn up in committee at Feurs, on the fifth day of the second decade of the month of Brumaire, Year II of the Republic [November 15, 1793]. In Feurs, from the Printing House of Marc Magnin, Printer for the Department of the Loire. Folio-sized poster (dimensions: 55 x 41 cm) printed in two columns separated by a typographic frieze adorned with three Phrygian caps, surmounted by a Phrygian cap at the top. An important and formidable decree issued by the representative on mission Claude Javogues (a major figure of the Reign of Terror in the Loire) annulling all sales of national property carried out by the Montbrison district since May 31, 1793. The text denounces the local administration’s alliance with “the rebels of Ville-Affranchie ” (Lyon) and the “Muscadins [who] lived in Mont-brisé,” orders the immediate return of the deeds under penalty of being “treated as suspects,” and transfers operations to the district of Boën. Marked creases, some marginal foxing, minor wear, and fraying along the edges.
