FRENCH REVOLUTION / GIRONDINS / PARIS COMMUNE / THE DAYS OF - Lot 252
FRENCH REVOLUTION / GIRONDINS / PARIS COMMUNE / THE DAYS OF MAY 31–JUNE 2, 1793 / LYON / RHÔNE. Decree of the National Convention, dated June 1, 1793, the second year of the French Republic. Concerning the insurrection that broke out in Paris on May 31. Proclamation of the National Convention. In Lyon, from the Printing House of Aimé Vatar-Delaroche. Folio-sized poster (50 x 36 cm as displayed), mounted on a mat, printed in two columns separated by a frieze of Phrygian caps hand-colored in red. An important document published at the height of the insurrectionary days of May 31 and June 2, 1793, which led to the fall of the Girondins: the Convention attempts to reassure the departments by downplaying the Parisian insurrection of the sans-culottes and the Paris Commune. Signed in print by Hérault (president), signed on behalf of the Provisional Executive Council by Dalbarade. Published locally in Lyon on June 6, 1793, by the Rhône-et-Loire Department. Normal creases, browned paper.
