RESTAURATION / LORRAINE. NANCY (MEURTHE). The General Counci - Lot 37
RESTAURATION / LORRAINE. NANCY (MEURTHE). The General Council of the Department of Meurthe, in the presence of the Prefect, to the French citizens of the same department. Poster (53 x 42 cm) printed in Nancy by Barbier, dated March 18, 1815. An official document from the First Restoration, printed in the midst of the “Theft of the Eagle” crisis, just two days before Napoleon’s entry into Paris. Signed by President Schmits and the members of the Council, as well as by Prefect de Mique, the text calls for a general mobilization and for citizens to voluntarily register at town halls to take up arms and defend “the throne of our legitimate King” in the face of the Emperor’s return, described as a “tyrannical regime.” Beautiful vignette featuring the coat of arms of France at the top and a central frieze of fleurs-de-lis dividing the text into two columns. Normal creases, very slight foxing, minor damage to the edges.
