EMPIRE / ROYALISTS / HUNDRED DAYS / LE MANS (SARTHE). Excerp - Lot 35
EMPIRE / ROYALISTS / HUNDRED DAYS / LE MANS (SARTHE). Excerpt from the Register of Decrees of the Prefecture of the Department of Sarthe. Poster (50 x 43 cm) printed in Le Mans, dated May 9, 1815. Official document from the Hundred Days signed by Prefect P. Lagarde, transcribing an Imperial Decree by Napoleon I aimed at suppressing royalist movements in the West. The text orders emergency measures in response to unrest in the district of La Flèche, where troublemakers “removed the tricolor flag from the bell towers.” The decree mandates the display of the tricolor flag and the disarmament of former nobles and émigré priests. Handwritten notes in pencil in the upper margin (“Napoleon’s Hunt for the Royalists”), normal creases, some foxing, and damage to the edges.
