Qajar-period bookplate in the Safavid style Pigments and gold on embossed leather Iran, 19th century, Qajar period 29 x 19 cm Reused as a book cover from a manuscript, this embossed leather cover features a Qajar-period painted decoration on one side depicting a scene in the Safavid style, with numerous figures and musicians set against a landscape. In the center are three embossed gilded mandorlas. On the other side, a richly decorated design of floral motifs painted in gold, along with three central mandorlas and a deeply embossed, polychromatic framing frieze featuring scrollwork and fleurons.
