* FORMICA Jean-Pierre Untitled (Representing two women in the bath) / Ink wash on paper / 50 x 45 cm / Framed under glass and wood rod with enhancement Jean-Pierre FORMICA, painter, draughtsman and engraver, worked in the 90s on series inspired by works (the Odalisque) or major artists (Francis Bacon). Born in 1946 near Arles, the South and the Mediterranean are as much a part of his work as his technique: superimposed sheets of paper, painted then incised to reveal layers of color. Sculpture, already present, will become increasingly important from the 2000s onwards. His work has been exhibited at museums in Toulon and Montbéliard, at the Arènes and Chapelle des Jésuites in Nîmes, and at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Arles. In 2008, he was part of the Nuit Blanche program in Paris. Publication of his monograph by Actes Sud in 2020 and Haute Couture projects for Christian Lacroix. * Temporary import VAT of 5.5% is payable by the buyer in addition to the sale price for this lot.
