CASADO Dan L'étoile / Mixed media and collage on panel mount - Lot 229

CASADO Dan L'étoile / Mixed media and collage on panel mounted on wooden stretcher / Signed vertically lower left / Titled, countersigned and dated 2004 on back / 26 x 19 cm Born in 1956, grew up in the seaside town of Mar del Plata in Argentina. He studied graphic design at an art school, where he met the artist Julia Sisi. Classical teaching seemed too reductive for the two young artists, and together they abandoned their studies in search of their own artistic language, detached from any aesthetic or theoretical influence. They took up painting instinctively and self-taught. In 1981, fleeing their country's dictatorial military regime, they settled in Barcelona, where they became second-hand dealers for several years. Dan recycles scraps of wood from restored furniture to make sculptures. He has a passion for salvaging objects and experiments with different techniques. For Dan, creating is a way of "rebuilding the world". Recycling newsprint takes on an artistic and ecological dimension. By giving a second life to discarded materials and transforming them into works of art, Dan questions man's view of matter.
