TOMASINI, Giacomo Filippo (Padua 1597 - Istria 1655). - Lot 171
TOMASINI, Giacomo Filippo (Padua 1597 - Istria 1655). Petrarcha redivivus, Integram Poeta celeberrimi Vitam Iconibus ære cælatis exhibens. Accessit Nobilissima Femina Laura brevis historia | Editio altera correcta & aucta; Padoue, typis Pauli Frambotti. 1650. in-4, (8 ff), 270 pp.-(9 ff). Late XVIllth century boards. Frontispiece and 18 copper-engraved hors-texte plates by David and Giorgi, including portraits of Laure and Petrarch. Very enlarged second edition (the first is from 1635). "More than an academic eulogy of the poet, [Tomasini] composed a biographical and critical study, based on abundant and precise documentation, for which he benefited from the help of the leading scholars of the Republic of Letters, among them Leone Allacci (1586-1669) and Gabriel Naudé (1600-1653). The Petrarca redivivus was an essential contribution to our knowledge of the poet... In addition to a biography of Laure, the volume includes the edition of five biographies of the poet, including three hitherto unpublished ones by Pier Paolo Vergerio, Giannozzo Manetti and Ludovico Beccadelli, as well as those by Leonardo Bruni († 1444) and an anonymous author, now attributed to Sicco Polenton (1375-1448). In addition, the volume is illustrated with figures engraved by H. David and Giorgio Georgi [4], offering a first and very complete Petrarchan documentation" (Extract from the Barbier-Mueller Foundation for the study of Italian Renaissance poetry). Provenance: Bibliothèque humaniste du Morbihan.
