HUYSMANS J.K.: The Cathedral. Blaizot/Kieffer Paris 1909. First edition illustrated by Charles JOUAS. One of 20 copies on vellum. Exceptional copy including two original color pencil drawings, one depicting Chartres as seen from the new bell tower and dated 1908, and the other depicting Mars pruning his vine (north porch) and dated March 29, 1918. Perfectly bound in-4 in full black morocco, first cover with inlaid leather in the center, depicting the cathedral from the front. Borders with gold filleting and black suedine, 4 ribbed spine, three gilt edges, cover retained (binding signed G.Louppé).
