GREGOFF Elie: The bewitched princess. Russian folk tale retold in French by Pierre MONTERET. Aux dépens de l'auteur Paris 1962. First edition illustrated by Elie GREGOFF. One of 220 copies on Arches. Complete with an original unpublished unsigned gouache (two women in costume). In sheets, in-4, in a slipcase illustrated in color by the artist. Signed by the artist. A very fine, fresh copy. A masterpiece of illustration by the artist, a collaborator of Fernand LEGER, who was a decorative painter and cartonnier for the Aubusson tapestry. The book is illustrated with 62 superb silk-screened compositions in vibrant colors, capturing the wonder of Russian fairy tales. The work took several years to complete, and Grégoff devoted part of his fortune to it, publishing it on behalf of "his mother and Russia".
