ANALYSIS OF GENERAL COMTE DE MONTHOLON'S BOOK. - Lot 75

ANALYSIS OF GENERAL COMTE DE MONTHOLON'S BOOK. Important manuscript text consisting of reading notes and analysis of General de Montholon's book on his memories of St. Helena and the Napoleonic epic (Comte de Montholon Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire de France sous Napoléon. Paris 1823). Over 200 large in-8 manuscript pages in tight handwriting for the first version, and likewise for the final version. Gifted with a great memory and a keen sense of observation, SAINT-DENIS dit le mamelouk Ali spent part of his time on his return from St. Helena informing and correcting reminiscences about Napoleon and life on St. Helena. Never hesitating to repeat what his interlocutors had said, he regularly corrected these writings, adding elements or contradicting them. Attached is an autograph letter signed and dated February 23, 1845 from MONTHOLON to SAINT-DENIS (1 page in-12).
