LETTRE DE LOUIS-JOSEPH MARCHAND au mamelouk Ali sur la mort - Lot 67
LETTRE DE LOUIS-JOSEPH MARCHAND au mamelouk Ali sur la mort de Napoléon. A moving and precious autograph letter dated February 8, 1830, sent by Napoleon's first valet de chambre in Sens to the Mameluke Ali. It recounts the Emperor's last moments. He recalls the night of May 4 to 5, the last incoherent words, then the calm that followed the delirium. And finally, the last breath. Marchand describes the serene face of the deceased, then the desolation that erupts, the arrival of General Bertrand's children and the respectful arrival of Captain Croket, who has come to note the hour of death. 3 pages in-4 on fine paper, significant wetness and tearing and loss of part of the text. A precious direct record of Napoleon's death.
