L'EAU DE COLOGNE DE L'EMPEREUR A SAINTE-HELENE. - Lot 66
L'EAU DE COLOGNE DE L'EMPEREUR A SAINTE-HELENE. An exceptional piece of history. As the Emperor was under severe financial restrictions from the English, he could no longer buy the eau de Cologne he liked to spritz himself with after bathing. Doing his utmost to ease Napoleon's six years of captivity on St. Helena, Saint-Denis was inspired by the Emperor to develop and prepare a cologne using local ingredients. The document presented here is the complete formula of this eau de Cologne, which was much appreciated by the Emperor. It is the only surviving olfactory reminder of the Emperor and the familiar objects that surrounded him (perfumes were created following this formula). One page in-12
