(TISSOT James) The life of our Lord Jesus Christ. Mame et fils éditeurs Tours 1896-1897. First edition illustrated by James Tissot. Limited edition of 1000 copies, this one of 800 on Marais vellum, after 200 Japon. Complete with illustration suite. In two volumes, each in a rare art deco full-leather binding, incised, embossed, pyrographed and painted, and signed E. SEGUY.
The first is decorated with trees against a sky of gilded clouds, characteristic of Art Deco, the edges are rubbed, the first cover has a split on the hinge for about 20 cm, the decoration continues on the 5-ribbed spine, the nerves and hinges are rubbed, gold-framed counterspine, gilded head, fresh interior and covers preserved.
The second is decorated with vine leaves and bunches of grapes on a gilded background, the first plate is detached with missing edges, 5-rib spine, rubbed, spine cap and tail bumped, gold-framed inside back cover, gilded head, fresh interior and covers preserved.
