DESROCHERS Etienne Jahandier : 122 engraved portraits. Most engraved by Etienne Desrochers, engraver to the King and his academy of painting and sculpture, or Petit his successor, or Daumont successor to Petit. Portraits from his Recueil de portraits des personnes qui se sont distinguées tant dans les Armes que dans les belles Lettres et les Arts, comme aussi la famille Royale de France et autres Cours étrangères (Paris, chez l'Auteur 1726) (of this set, 16 engravings are from other engravers and other collections). The pieces in this collection can be recognized by their framing: a rectangular border, with the names and titles of the characters on the border itself or in a cartouche, and a verse piece on a lower shelf. Étienne Desrochers was often only the editor of these portraits, which in most cases are copies of older images, and the accompanying verses are by François Gacon.
