EXCOFFON Roger - Lot 556
EXCOFFON Roger (unsigned) Grenoble 1968. France. February 6 to 18. X Winter Olympic Games. Offset poster. Imp. Dardelet, Grenoble. Folded, good condition: traces of folds, small scratches. 52 x 31.5 cm Bibliography: L'Olympisme par l'Affiche. 1896 - 1984. International Olympic Committee Lausanne, Switzerland. 1983. Page 94 and 95: "Roger Excoffon (1910-1983), the author of the poster, was also a typographer and advertising designer. He designed the visual identity for the 1968 Grenoble Games, as well as a typography specifically created for the event, called "Grenoble 1968 style". The poster, printed by Dardelet in Grenoble, featured the emblem of the Games, which was intended to evoke the city of Grenoble, winter and Olympism. Excoffon therefore chose to depict a snow crystal surrounded by three red roses, symbols of the city of Grenoble, surmounting the Olympic rings reproduced in white."
