Hieronymus JANSSENS (Antwerp 1624-1693 Antwerp) - Lot 175
Hieronymus JANSSENS (Antwerp 1624-1693 Antwerp) Ball scene in an aristocratic interior Oil on canvas 45 x 59 cm A pupil of Christoffel Jacobsz van der Laemen, Janssens specialized in elegant subjects of balls in beautiful interiors. On the left wall, a monumental work of garlands of flowers surrounds a medallion, probably by Daniel Seghers (1590-1661), as does a "Venus with mirror" above the mantelpiece in the background. A very similar, slightly larger composition (52 x 64 cm.), featuring our dancing couple, is dated 1663 (Sale "Succession de Monsieur X", Fraysse et associés, Hôtel Drouot, October 17, 2019, lot 57, sold for 15,600)
