"Exposition Universelle de 1855" - Paris, Vinchon imprimeur - Explanation of the works of painting, sculpture, engraving, lithography and architecture by living foreign and French artists, exhibited at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, avenue Montaigne, on May 15, 1855 - France's first universal exhibition of industrial products and the arts, following the Cristal Palace exhibition by four years, was to mark the start of a worldwide customs and industrial policy favoring free competition and free trade over monopoly. "Universal exhibitions are part of this vast economic progress to which railroads, electric telegraphs, steam navigation, isthmus drilling and all major public works belong, and which should bring about an increase in moral well-being, i.e. more freedom, at the same time as an increase in material well-being, i.e. more ease for the benefit of the greatest number - Some faults, but BEG .......voir images
