JAPAN - Late EDO period (1603 - 1868) Composite armor: helmet (kabuto): three-plate zunari in black-lacquered iron, gold-lacquered wooden wakidate in the shape of a lightning bolt - Neck guard (shikoro): with four blue lacquered iron strips chin guard (hoate): black-lacquered iron, - throat guard (yodarekake): black-lacquered iron with four blue-lacquered strips breastplate (dô): niunobe nimai-do type with nine black-lacquered iron strips - Skirt (kusazuri): with five black-lacquered and blue-lacquered strips Shoulder pads (sode): seven black-lacquered and blue-lacquered iron strips Underskirt (haidate): gold-lacquered iron elements joined by chain mail. Leggings (suneate): iron shino Armbands (kote): natural iron shino with gourd-shaped plates linked by chain mail, hands decorated with sakura flowers and ume (missing, lacquered).
