VIETNAM - Période MINH MANG (1820 - 1841)
A fangding-shaped incense burner in depatinated bronze, decorated on the body with taotie masks on a geometrical leiwen background. On the reverse, a poem written by Emperor Minh Mang:
Originally, the bronze fangding was used to hold objects, its square shape symbolizing justice and measure, reminding us not to indulge in excess, and to always consider benevolence and justice in all our actions. [This perfume burner] imitates a Jiyou bronze perfume burner from the Zhou dynasty, made in the Jihai year of the Minh Mang era (1839).
