CORSAIRES
S.l. [Saint-Malo], s.d. [November 1806], folio, sheet. 4 pp.
Very interesting document on the letterhead of the Tribunal de commerce de Saint-Malo (October 20 and 31, 1806).
It contains accounts relating to the first run of the Marsouin, chartered by Surcouf in 1806, when the famous privateer from Saint-Malo was campaigning in the Indian Ocean on the Revenant.
In addition to his activities as a privateer captain, Surcouf was also a racing shipowner. Between 1804 and 1813, he fitted out fifteen vessels that operated in the Indian Ocean, including the Caroline in 1804, commanded by his brother Nicolas, which made six catches; the Revenant in 1807, commanded by his cousin Joseph Potier, which also made six catches; in the Atlantic and English Channel, where operations were considerably less fruitful; and the Marsouin, captured by the English on January 24, 1808. Cf. Taillemite, and Vichot, "Répertoire des navires de guerre français".
Very rare. In excellent condition. [Ref. 30946]
