L. 50 cm Georges Carette & Co. of Nuremberg, Germany: Carette et Cie was founded in Nuremberg in 1886 by French citizen Georges Carette with the support of Gebrüder Bing, who had moved to Germany after marrying his German wife. The company focused on pewter and brass toys, and enjoyed its most innovative period between 1905 and 1914. Carette specialized in mechanical sheet-metal boats, cars, streetcars, miniature trains and trains, and in 1911 the Carette factory employed around 450 people. Georges Carette was forced to leave Germany at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, and his company ceased production in 1917. Carette products did not disappear entirely, however, as the German manufacturer Karl Bub took over some of the old Carette miniature cars, while the English manufacturer Bassett-Lowke continued to produce the old Carette locomotives.
