The Jürgen Jürgensen company was founded in 1740 in Denmark, when Jürgen Jürgensen joined forces with Isaac Larpent, under the name "Larpent & Jürgensen".
On Jürgen's death in 1811, his son Urban took over the business and retained the name.
In 1834, Jules Frédéric (1808-1877) - known as Jules I - opened a branch of his marine chronometer factory in Le Locle and settled in the town.
A successful industrialist and merchant, his son Jules Urban Frédéric (1837-1894) - known as Jules II - expanded the business.
By 1912, the last member of the Jürgensen family had passed away, and Jules Jürgensen was sold to a US-based company in 1936.
