Brass quarter circle clock - Lot 137
Brass quarter circle clock 20th century Radius 138 mm. L. 200 mm. A rather clumsy imitation of an hourly quarter-circle by Alī ibn Shihāb (fl. mid-14th century), whose only known astrolabe-quadrant is in the British Museum, London. There are numerous errors in the use of the abjad on the instrument, and the curves for the afternoon prayers are different from those drawn on the British Museum instrument. As on the latter, a second inscription to the right of the maker's inscription offers the (incomplete) name of the engraver.
