Astrolabe - Lot 136
Astrolabe
Probably 20th century, in 15th century style
Inscribed 'Made by Ibn Abd al-Ramān in the city of Marrakesh year 829 [= CE 1425/26]'.
Diam. 129 mm.
Fairly well executed, the instrument nevertheless includes numerous errors: the spider is incorrectly projected, the five spandrels cannot be fixed in the mother; they are all engraved on one side only, the writing on the spider and the back is not the same, and the scales on the back have several errors, particularly in the inscriptions on the calendar.
