Hour disc combined with a sine and cosine quadrant - Lot 135
Hour disc combined with a sine and cosine quadrant Probably 20th century Close copy with some changes and errors of an instrument built on the order of Abū-l-Hasan 'Alī in 1197H (CE 1782/3), Viceroy of Fez, commander of the mountain tribes of the Rif. The instrument, rather poorly engraved and with zodiac signs on the back in disarray, bears the date 1196 (1781/2). It is in all respects, errors and size (18cm diameter vs. 22cm) aside, identical to the original, of which it appears to be an unfortunate recent copy.
