Cloth-covered, fair condition: restored tears and a few repaints in the image, notably above the Salta anchor and along the margins. Margins partly redone. 72.5 x 103.5 cm Société Générale des Transports Maritimes à Vapeur was founded in 1865 to import Algerian iron ore to France. It did not limit itself to this traffic, however, opening lines to South America as early as 1867, and to the West Indies in 1914. The company disappeared in 1964.
