Max Radiguet (1816-1899), secretary to the great traveler Admiral Du Petit Thouars, was aboard the frigate Reine Blanche which was part of the French fleet leaving Valparaiso to take possession of the Marquesas Islands. After having taken possession of the place and after having confronted the refugee whaler deserters, Radiguet came to meet the Marquesans and relates their daily life and their customs in his book illustrated by some sketches.
Very beautiful travelogue, full of details. Good copy with all margins.
