"At the end of the 1950s, two German jazz enthusiasts, Horst Lippmann and Fritz Rau, noticed that the European public was largely ignorant of the blues. Only Big Bill Broonzy, who had recently died (in 1958), was somewhat known to the public, and the blues was only recognized as the "source of jazz". They decided to create a touring festival throughout Western Europe. In 1966, in addition to Sleepy John Estes and Roosevelt Sykes, Little Brother Montgomery, Robert Pete Williams, Junior Wells, Otis Rush, Sippie Wallace and Big Joe Turner were discovered.
