LOUYS Pierre - Lot 352
LOUYS Pierre Aphrodite. Ancient customs. Mercure de France Paris 1896. Reissue the year of the original, numbered 343. Autograph signed letter at the end of the text, p.327, to Charles Bargone, real name of the writer Claude FARRERE and dated 1907. Mounted on tab two pages in-8 entitled "Conversation with a young girl born in 1886" and "Second conversation with a young girl born in 1886". On the title page an autograph note signed by Claude Farrère and dated 1919 announcing that in case of sale of the work these two pages must be extracted and that their publication is forbidden. A second note dated 1944 announces that he has changed his mind and "authorizes the further publication of these two delicate masterpieces in deluxe editions". (but there is no publication to our knowledge). Enclosed two pages of notes in-12, one on a medieval courtesan, the other on an antique, an autograph letter signed to a mistress (3pages in-12), and an amusing handwritten note dated "Sextidi matin" and announcing the publication in the Revue des Deux Mondes of a text by Louis Racine whose first 12 verses follow, and which is in fact a poem by Louys which was not published. Set presented in a half blue morocco in-8 binding with corners, spine with 5 nerves, gold lettering and date at the foot, gilt head, covers preserved, binding signed David
