Emile GALLE (1846-1904)
Rare glazed earthenware jardinière with Egyptian decoration in polychrome enhanced by gilding with insects and flowers Signed " Emile Gallé Fecit Nancy " and original label About 1880 H : 25 cm W : 39 cm D : 13,5 cm Bibliography : - " La Céramique d'Emile Gallé ", Musée de l'Ecole de Nancy, Nancy, 1984 page 119 fig. Gallé produced glassware and ceramics with Egyptian decoration in the 1880s, some of which were presented at the 1884 Exposition de l'Union centrale des Arts décoratifs. These were not simple copies of antique pieces, but rather a reinterpretation of the forms and iconographic repertoire in which Gallé mixed his own inventions. This production will constitute a very short period in the career of the artist who will nevertheless consider it significant enough to reissue certain pieces at the World Fair of 1889 and the Centennial of the World Fair of 1900.
