STENDHAL (BEYLE Henri) :
La chartreuse de Parme. Ambroise Dupont éditeur Paris 1839 E.O. with a mention of 2nd edition. Vicaire considers "that these copies are a second printing of the same composition rather than a second edition. The collation of the volumes is identically the same as the original edition". Copy on vellum paper (there was no large paper edition). Two volumes, of 402 and 445 pages with all the characteristics of the OE. Autograph text partly erased on the covers of each volume, probably a bookplate. Autograph letter mounted on the flyleaf thanking a colleague for his glowing article in the journal le Moniteur (possibly the publisher). Two volumes bound in-8 in a full moiré paper folder and case, title pieces on brown leather. Scattered spotting. A very rare copy of this other masterpiece by Stendhal which was a great success at its publication. With Le rouge et le noir and Lucien Leuwen, La chartreuse de parme constitutes his training trilogy which makes him one of the greatest novelists of the XIX th century.
