In-quarto, full red morocco, plate decorated with a gold frame, a crown topping the initial P in the center, spine with 5 nerves, gilt decorated caissons, three gilt edges, restorations on hinges. Printed in Paris by Didot 1771. First edition. Rare title page illustrated by Arrivet, often missing as shown by the collation of Polak and the copy visible on the site of the Bnf. Complete with 49 plates of engraved maps and plans. Fresh interior. Bookplate of Sir William Arthur (Cavendish-Bentinck), sixth Duke of Portland. Handwritten mention on the title page indicating that it was given to him in London in April 1904 by Alfred B. Yeats. Another handwritten mention identifies an earlier owner: George Byng in 1718, officer in the British Army. On the type page a dry stamp "Bibliotheca Augusta Rhodocanakiana".
