Geographical description of Guyana. Containing the possessions and establishments of the Franciscans, the Spaniards, the Portuguese and the Dutch in these vast countries. Bound in quarto full calf, gilt boards with iron in its center the arms of FRANCE girded with the collar of the order of the Holy Spirit and that of St. Michael, also on the first board the gold lettering "Marine / Bureau des consulats" and a second unidentified iron, spine with 5 nerves adorned with gilt, title page on green leather "Descrip / de la / Guyane", three red speckled edges, a crack of 4 cm in the tail of the spine, some traces of rubbing. Paris printed by Didot 1763. First edition. Complete with ten plates and 20 maps and plans. Fresh interior. A beautiful copy of this rich description of Guyana by Bellin, a geographer by profession but of cabinet. He wrote this work without travelling, which did not prevent him from being recognized as "premier ingénieur de la marine et du dépôt des plans, censeur royal de l'académie de marine et de la société royale de Londres".
