Journey in the lower and upper Egypt during the campaigns of General Bonaparte. Two volumes, one in-quarto full calf, gilt framed boards, smooth spine, decorated with gilt, partially faded, title page on red long-grained leather, gold lettering, hinge with the first board split on 6 cm, a tear on the second board, three speckled edges; the second in-plano half red morocco, long-grained, spine with 6 nerves, decorated with gilt. Paris, Imprimerie P. Didot l'aîné, An X - 1802. First edition. Complete of the two volumes, on one hand the text, on the other hand the plates. The table of plates includes a numbering error: the last plates on the table are numbered CLX and CLXI, the X and L have been interchanged. For the text: complete with the folding page, fresh interior. For the plates: portrait of the author engraved by himself in the frontispiece which was only included in a small number of copies and complete with 143 plates numbered from 1 to 141: 141 plates plus a 20bis and a 54bis, plates 4 and 5 are on the same leaf, are folding plates 12, 88, 131, 132, 136 and 137, on double-page the 134, 138, 140 and 141. Scattered spotting, especially on the title page otherwise fresh inside. Complete set of this essential trip of Napoleon to Egypt by Vivant Denon, future director general of the Louvre museum.
