Paris Pasquier Le Tellier imprimeur 1550 libraire-éditeur Etienne Groulleau. First edition of the French translation by François de Vernasse. Printing in one column of 42 lines. Letters. Title page with woodcut of the printer and his motto "Patere, aut abstine. Nul ne s'y frote ". Complete with 51 woodcuts in-text illustrating many chapter beginnings. Some pages blackened, otherwise fresh inside. A masterpiece of the Spanish chivalry novel, which was for a long time a model of the genre, dethroned and parodied by Cervantes' Don Quixote, the first part of which appeared in 1605.
