RABELAIS François :
Tiers livre des faictz et dictz héroïques du noble Pantagruel. Bound in-16 full brown calf, fillets framing the boards, spine with 4 nerves and fleurons, edges partly speckled black, hinges rubbed and one cracked on two centimeters, title page washed with small cracks in margins. (signature on title page of Abel LEFRANC). Lyon 1546. Year of the original. One of the four known editions printed in 1546 (the first two in Paris, one in Toulouse and this one in Lyon). Without name but according to Plan: at Pierre de Tours bookseller Printer in Lyon. For the first time, the name of Rabelais appears on the title page, "Franç Rabelais, Docteur en Médicine et calloïer des isles Hieres" (which means Monk). The royal privilege is dated September 19, 1545. 237 pages, 3 pages of table of contents and 4 pages of privilege. Rabelais condemned as early as 1547 by the faculty of theology of Paris for his texts judged obscene, he will have waited 10 years to give this continuation of Pantagruel and Gargantua. Masterpiece of literature, the third book represents a joyful meditation on knowledge, erudition, will and the necessary risks of interpretation.
