VORAGINE Jacques de :
Legenda sanctorum. LA LEGENDE DOREE. In-folio full brown morocco, board with framing and cold fleurons in the corners, hinge marked, spine with 5 ribs, gold lettering, date at foot, cold fleurons, binding signed Townsed. Printed in Strasbourg [Georg Husner] 1479. Printed in Latin language, in one column of 40 lines. An initials in brown ink on the first page, certainly in the hand of the person who annotated the book in the margin: numerous annotations, sometimes dense, of a scholarly reader, probably from the 16th century. He gives details of reading, sometimes references to works. Frequent traces of wetness, a few small missing page edges, the first and last leaves reinforced, a few leaves restored in the margins at the beginning and end of the book, a few wormholes on the last leaves. A major text of the Middle Ages, written between 1250 and 1280, it is a compilation of stories of the lives and martyrs of saints and episodes from the life of Christ. The first work was printed in French (in 1476 in Lyon). Originally this text included 180 legends, this work presents 215, some editions of the 15th century present more than 400, translating its success and influence.
