EUGENE GAILLARD, attribué à
Mahogany and burl veneer display cabinet opening with four doors on the sides flanked by a glass door, surmounted by an open niche and in the lower part by two drawers The whole is decorated with carved floral motifs Gilt bronze handles and grips Around 1900-1905 H : 186 cm W : 133 cm D : 50 cm Provenance : - Acquired from the Charles Gillot family in the 1970's - Private collection In 1879, Charles Gillot asked his friend the illustrator Eugène Grasset to design the decoration and furnishings of his mansion at 79 rue Madame in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. This whole set was created by the decorator and executed in the years 1880-1885 by the cabinetmaker Fulfraff who was then working for Charles Gillot. A part of this whole arrangement is preserved in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. In 1905, Charles Gillot's daughter, Louise-Marcelle Seure, recently married to the archaeologist Georges Seure, commissioned Eugène Grasset to design a series of furnishings for her new apartment. It is very likely that Eugène Grasset also commissioned furniture from contemporaries such as Eugène Gaillard in order to furnish the various rooms of the mansion and his daughter's apartment. This piece of furniture that we present to you is a unique piece, it was acquired directly from the family of Charles Gillot in the 1970's from the couple Marcel and Gabrielle Richard (née Gillot). By its stylistic and formal characteristics it is attributable to Eugene Gaillard.
